Budget

Please review the Sample Budget and Sample Budget Justification below. These samples are intended to show the level of detail that should be included with the proposal budget and justification, but actual budget allocations often vary widely based on the specific nature of the project being undertaken. If you are not sure about some of the budget details, please do your best to give an estimate based on available information, understanding that budget changes can usually be accommodated later in the process. If you have questions regarding budget preparation, contact the cognizant Program Director for guidance and clarification.

Effective for solicitation NSF 24-579, Phase I SBIR/STTR awardees should budget for Technical and Business Assistance (TABA) and National Innovation-Corps (I-Corps™) training within their Phase I budget. Other supplements to SBIR/STTR Phase I awards will not be allowed. TABA provides an opportunity to assist small businesses in commercialization of their technologies. Up to $6,500 for TABA funding may be budgeted by the applicant proposing small business for their well justified commercialization activities. NSF I-Corps training is highly recommended; the proposal budget should include $25,000 to cover costs related to undertaking the training. NSF I-Corps is a competitive program, acceptance into the program is not guaranteed as a result of an SBIR/STTR Phase I award. See the solicitation for more details.
